Duba Port Customs in the northwestern Tabuk region has successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle 56,680 Captagon amphetamine pills. These pills were found concealed inside a commercial truck that was arriving in the Kingdom through the port. According to Hamoud Al-Harbi, a spokesperson for the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA), the pills were hidden across multiple compartments of the vehicle. The spokesperson highlighted the authority's commitment to maintaining strict border oversight across all land, sea, and air entry points in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Narcotics Control. ZATCA has also called on the public to report any suspected smuggling operations or customs violations through a confidential security hotline, email, or international line, offering financial rewards for confirmed tip-offs.

Why this mattersThis interception highlights the robust security measures in place at Saudi Arabia's ports, which are crucial for preventing contraband from entering the country. For developers and businesses in Madinah, this reinforces the importance of compliance with customs regulations and the potential risks associated with importing goods. The incident also underscores the need for vigilance in supply chain management and the benefits of maintaining strong relationships with regulatory authorities.
