Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), a Saudi terminal operator, and CMA CGM Group have signed definitive agreements to jointly develop and operate Terminal 4 at Jeddah Islamic Port, in collaboration with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani). The agreement was signed in Paris during the French-Saudi Investment Roundtable Meeting, attended by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The project will bring approximately US$434 million (SAR 1.6 billion) of investment into Jeddah Islamic Port and add a new container terminal as part of RSGT's existing concession. The terminal will add approximately up to 2.6 million TEUs of annual handling capacity and include deep-water berths designed to accommodate the world's largest container vessels, along with 10 new ship-to-shore cranes.

The additional marine infrastructure is intended to improve Jeddah Islamic Port's ability to handle larger vessels and major international shipping services. It is also expected to support higher trade volumes, connectivity, and access to international markets for Saudi imports and exports.

The project forms part of Saudi Arabia's National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030. It will provide additional capacity for the Kingdom's growing trade requirements and strengthen the port's position on major shipping routes. The deep-water berths will support larger, next-generation container vessels and could help attract and retain shipping services, increase cargo flows, and improve connectivity to global markets.

The partnership combines RSGT's local terminal operations with CMA CGM Group's shipping network, logistics capabilities, and terminal operating experience. CMA CGM has interests in 64 port terminals worldwide. Saudi Ports Authority President H.E. Eng. Suliman bin Khalid Al-Mazrou said the agreement reflects investment interest in Saudi Arabia's maritime sector and supports efforts to develop port infrastructure and competitiveness under the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.

Why this mattersThis investment is significant for Madinah as it enhances Jeddah's capacity to handle larger vessels, potentially increasing trade flow through the region. The development aligns with Vision 2030, which could lead to more infrastructure projects and opportunities for local firms in the logistics and construction sectors.
