Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Fahad Al-Dosari attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the container terminal at Beirut Port. The event was held at Berth 16 of the port and was attended by Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, along with various political and economic figures. The expansion project aims to more than double the port's annual container handling capacity, increasing it from the current 1.3 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) to 3 million TEUs by the year 2028.
Why this mattersThe expansion of Beirut Port's container terminal could influence regional shipping routes and logistics, potentially affecting supply chains that involve Madinah. For developers and architects in Madinah, this may mean changes in shipping costs and timelines for materials sourced from or routed through Lebanon.
Key figures1.3 million TEUs currently · 3 million TEUs by 2028
