The General Directorate of Passports in Saudi Arabia has issued 22,894 administrative decisions during the month of Rabi Al-Awwal 1448 AH. These decisions were made to penalize citizens and expatriates who violated residency, labor, and border security regulations. The penalties imposed include imprisonment, fines, and deportation. The directorate has urged all citizens, expatriates, business owners, and individuals to refrain from transporting, employing, or sheltering violators of these regulations. They are also advised against concealing violators or providing them with assistance in finding employment, housing, or transportation. The directorate has called for cooperation in reporting violators by contacting 911 in the regions of Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, and 999 in the rest of the Kingdom. All reports will be treated with complete confidentiality, and reporters will not be held liable.

Why this mattersFor developers and design practices in Madinah, this crackdown on residency and labor violations could impact the availability and cost of labor. Ensuring compliance with regulations is crucial for project timelines and avoiding penalties. The emphasis on reporting violations highlights the importance of maintaining legal workforce practices.
