Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has awarded Alstom a €22 million contract to support the reliability and day-to-day performance of its North Freight fleet operating along the Kingdom’s North–South rail corridor. Under the five-year contract, Alstom will provide support services aimed at maintaining the operational reliability and performance of SAR’s freight fleet serving the North–South corridor. The North–South corridor is a key railway link in Saudi Arabia, connecting mining sites with processing facilities and export points. The northern line currently transports approximately 13.5 million tonnes of freight annually, supporting the Kingdom’s mining, industrial and logistics activities. The contract reinforces Alstom’s role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s rail infrastructure and freight transportation operations, as the Kingdom continues to expand and strengthen its logistics and industrial transport network.

Why this mattersThis contract highlights opportunities for infrastructure support services in Saudi Arabia's expanding logistics network, which may influence future development projects in Madinah. The focus on enhancing freight capacity could lead to increased demand for related services and infrastructure, offering potential collaboration opportunities for local firms.
