Rua Al Madinah Project: A Major Hospitality Development in Madinah

· Madinah

The Rua Al Madinah Project is one of the most significant hospitality developments currently underway in Madinah. It spans 1.35 million square meters beside the eastern expansion of the Prophet’s Mosque. Once completed, the project will deliver over 47,000 hotel and residential keys, create approximately 93,000 jobs, and contribute an estimated USD 37 billion to the GDP. The development is part of a broader vision to welcome 23 million visitors to Madinah annually by 2030.

The project incorporates smart city systems, including automated waste collection, district cooling, and greywater recycling, to support sustainable development at scale. In March 2026, under the patronage of HRH Prince Salman bin Sultan, the project unveiled the names of its districts, avenues, and pathways, drawing from historic tribal areas such as Bani Abdul Ashhal and Bani Muawiyah. This naming strategy is part of a strategic vision to preserve Madinah’s identity and strengthen its cultural presence.

In April 2026, a USD 2.1 billion contract was awarded to China Railway 18th Bureau Group to build Superblock 5, which will include ten branded hotels such as JW Marriott, Le Meridien, Fairmont, and two Hyatt properties. The project engages international design and delivery partners, including Jacobs, KEO International, and Parsons.

In July 2026, Rua Al Madinah Holding joined the United Nations Global Compact, embedding its ten principles on human rights, labor, and environmental protection into its corporate strategy. This milestone aligns with their commitment to advancing urban planning and real estate investment in Madinah while supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

For a developer: The Rua Al Madinah Project represents a significant opportunity for developers and investors in Saudi Arabia, offering a substantial boost to the local economy and job market. The integration of smart city systems and commitment to sustainability also align with global trends in urban development, making it a forward-thinking investment.
