StatusReported by Okaz; not confirmed elsewhere.

The Transport General Authority has permitted Saudi taxis to transport passengers between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain effective from September 6. In a circular addressed to investors in the taxi sector, the authority stipulated that Saudi carriers providing the service must comply with the executive regulations governing taxi and passenger transport activities, as well as relevant international agreements. The circular outlined several conditions governing the provision of the service. These conditions include holding a valid operating license; providing the service through licensed taxi and passenger transport brokers; submitting a passenger loading manifest in accordance with the form approved by the authority; verifying the identities of drivers and passengers and ensuring that all required travel documents are in order; integrating with the systems of relevant authorities, including the Shomoos security system; adhering to the approved fare; refraining from picking up passengers on the return journey until further notice; and prohibiting the transportation of passengers within Bahrain.

Why this mattersThis development could influence transportation options for residents and visitors in the region, potentially affecting travel patterns and demand for transport services. For developers and design practices in Madinah, this may impact the planning and design of transport infrastructure and services, particularly if similar permissions are extended to other routes or regions.
