Masjid Al-Qiblatayn Precinct

A precinct drawn around Masjid Al-Qiblatayn, one of Madinah's most historic mosques. The extension frames the existing building rather than competing with it: white arcades run in repeated bays, rows of domed roof lights bring daylight into the covered halls, and shaded courts hold the ground between arcade and mosque. Seen from the air the new fabric reads as a low white plinth; the minarets remain the tallest elements on the site.
